PT, Hybrid Feb 2023 - present
In my current role, I am working on a range of products within a larger suite across mobile apps and web apps. Working with another UX designer, we build and maintain a robust and comprehensive Style System that serves at least 4 different areas of the Plant Assessor product range.
Product Designer
UAC (Universities Admissions Centre)
FT, Remote Oct 2022 - Feb 2023
During this short stint, I spent time trying to understand their comprehensive systems and bespoke white-labelling services. I was a part of the Apply Admissions team assisting developers in improving the experience for applicants and catering to update requests from our tertiary clients.
UX/UI Designer
Kip McGrath
FT, Hybrid Nov 2018 - Aug 2022
Over this time I helped build a Learning Management System from the ground up. It was a success even on the first test and all users were extremely happy with the product. The rollout is currently happening but word from ex-colleagues is that it’s going very well.
I worked on various projects mostly around management and learning systems that cater for a wide range of users, from students, parents, tutors and centre managers. I designed an active design system, and created solutions for better responsive interfaces, and for the last 12 months, I led the team with all design decisions and direction, working with stakeholders across the company.

Melissa Barrass design
Remote May 2016 - Present
I have had many positive opportunities to collaborate with individuals and agencies over the years as a freelance designer. My experience spans design consultations, print and digital design, branding, photography, social media, EDMs, textile design and repeats, wire-framing, storyboarding and research. I have a couple of ongoing clients I work with outside of my 9-5, which encourages my skill set to remain diverse.
Education
Growth Design's Product Psychology Mastery online course
Aug 2021
On the side of full-time work at Kip McGrath, I managed to complete Growth Design's Product Psychology Mastery Course. I passed the course at 86% and applied the teachings to various projects at Kip McGrath. I really enjoy the insights and story format of their teachings.
RMIT Online, Melbourne
May 2020 - Jul 2020 (6 wks)
I chose to up-skill and officially gain a certificate in UX design to build knowledge, skills and confidence in my own practice. I worked on a self-directed project where I chose to introduce a new collaborative account feature to Flatmates.com.au. I met all the criteria for the project’s grading.
College of Fine Arts (COFA) University of New South Wales, Sydney

Majors - Textile and Graphic Design. I learned many new skills under the guidance of renowned creatives such as Liz Williamson and Emma Peters. I had the wonderful opportunity to go on exchange to Sweden, studying a semester at Gothenburg University, then a textiles elective in Gujarat, India. I graduated with high distinctions for my self-directed major project and had my work showcased at the University's graduation exhibition called The Annual.
